Ethics and Hope

2024.

In his book "Factfulness" Hans Rosling and his team look carefully at global data over the years and show us that, without glossing over the enormous problems we know about, the world is remarkably better than you think!

We have to defend freedom of thought, promote community responsibility, and be open to new ideas. We have to be our creative best. All of us.

It is difficult to watch the news and to believe there is a better future. There is a global struggle for free thinking and justice and there are growing demands for accurate, unbiased information.

Human generosity and ingenuity is not uncommon. When you travel outside the insulating bubble of the five-star luxury tour... when you meet extra-ordinary-ordinary people, you will soon find a generous and collaborative spirit, even in the most difficult of circumstances. You will find self-expression and a common will to solve problems.

Become human

I am a survivor of a concentration camp.

My eyes saw what no person should witness:

gas chambers built by learned engineers.

Children poisoned by educated physicians.

Infants killed by trained nurses.

Women and babies shot by high school and college graduates.

So, I am suspicious of education.

My request is this:  Help your children become human

Your efforts must never produce learned monsters,

skilled psychopaths or educated Eichmanns.

Reading, writing, and arithmetic are important

only if they serve to make our children more human.

never again? fight for equality and justice in everything you do - two state solution

When societies prioritise creative thinking there is a way to the future we want

but it must be led by

collaboration = respect

a collaborative spirit and a good moral compass

"Part of being optimistic is keeping one's head pointed toward the sun, one's feet moving forward. There were many dark moments when my faith in humanity was sorely tested,

but I would not and could not give myself

up to despair. That way lay defeat and death."

Nelson Mandela
