The right culture and the right environment

Providing the right culture and the right environment is fundamental to what we do here at CrE8ive Place. It is why we exist. So what does that mean exactly?
It is about you, the people around you, and how we interact as a community where everyone is intent on improving their skills, imagining ideas, and working to develop the best of them into something important. It may be just for me and that's fine. We can choose to work in an environment that is right for me: in splendid isolation or through conversations that make me think differently (and, on occasions, make me laugh!) These are conversations with supportive friends who cast a critical eye and aid the shaping of ideas. At the very least, an audience can put ideas to the test. Sharing your thinking takes a great deal of trust in others. Group involvement in the creative process only occurs when people open themselves. It should be a listening, mutually beneficial relationship. This can only be done in a safe and relaxed environment.
Everyone here wants to create something new and interesting. That takes resilience and persistence. People put the work in when they know the idea is worth the great deal of energy put in it - it has value. Taken to extremes Michaelangelo took four years to complete the Sistine chapel and Mona Lisa reputedly took Da Vinci sixteen years.
It's not always about sweat of course. Yesterday was written very quickly after McCartney woke up with the melody. It took him a further two weeks to write the lyrics. One thing is certain - talent is easier to find when you are working in your natural element and it always starts with an idea that is both personal and emotional.
Second to personality and culture is place. This CrE8ive Place is called Joie ce Jour (joy this day). It is an impressive 19th Century mill based in Brittany near to many areas of outstanding beauty. See the CrE8ive Pace - where you can stay. There are wonderful opportunities to take part in adventurous activities and to develop friendships. See the Craic for this. You can share a room or be placed in one of your own. There are many specialised study areas and four large workrooms - some with performance stages and recording equipment. The environment is right when it is safe and warm, the food is good and so are the people. If you want to find a quiet place you will find it. If you want some adventure and excitement it is there. The large practice rooms are modular so you can work with whatever materials you choose. You can book for groups, bands, clubs and individuals. Get in touch and we'll set things up.

The E8 in CrE8ive?
They are the fundamental competencies of creativity which we promote at every CrE8ive Place
The E8 Core Competencies we support - Sir Ken Robinson 1950-2020 adapted by Peter Tierney
-
Curiosity - to observe and to listen with great attention, to question further;
-
Creativity - to play; generating original ideas; to be open to the ideas of others, making meaningful connections; to wander, to be a lateral or tangent thinker; increasingly focusing on the meaningful application of those ideas;
-
Criticism - to be brave (to hold fast or to change) and to be honest and open, to reflect and to consider arguments logically in a search for truth, for something better;
-
Communication - learning to express feelings clearly, confidently in a range of expressive forms;
-
Collaboration - working constructively with others, valuing the potential of the team and the experiences, contributions and creativity of each individual;
-
Compassion - the practice of empathy, the pursuit of understanding self and others, being tolerant
-
Composure - to value self, to be mindful, to be resilient
-
Citizenship – to engage constructively with the CrE8ive Place community, the local community and beyond (including online communities if so engaged). To take on responsibilities which help communities work together in harmony
